Karie J. Evans

Director of Instruction
School District 91: Nechako Lakes
British Columbia Hub | Canada | NORTH AMERICA

I am a settler on the unceded, ancestral territory of the Dakelh, Nedut’en, and Wet’suwet’en peoples, which include 14 First Nations. More specifically, on the pristine shores of Tchesinkut Lake (translates to “clear waters” in Dakelh) in northern British Columbia, Canada. I was not born here but moved here in 2021 and fell in love with the water, forest, animals, and people here. I was born in Alberta and lived most of my life in various cities there but also lived in the USA for five years as well as Qatar, China, and Jordan. This is my first time living rurally and I may never wish for city life again.

I am living my childhood dream of becoming a teacher, which is a great thing to do for a person who loves learning like I do. Instead of Barbies or baseball, I played school with my siblings. Eventually, I received a BA in Theatre Arts followed by a B.Ed. in Secondary Education. 18 years later, after teaching Pre-K to Grade 12, I completed my M.Ed. and found myself loving being a leader of learning as a vice principal, then a principal. and now Director of Instruction for Inclusion and Accessibility in Nechako Lakes.
I love the ways in which Compassionate Systems tools are making me a better teacher, better leader, and better person. I also love being a partner, mom, sister, aunt, friend, and dog mom to my cavapoo, Moki Rose and feel my capacity to attend mindfully to these roles enriched exponentially through these practices.
