Tyralynn Frazier | Ph.D., MPH

Head Scientist of The Compassion Lab at Emory University’s Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics. In this role, she guides the center in the development of a research program on the global implementation of SEE Learning and basic research on the science of compassion, ethics, and prosocial development throughout human development.

Dr. Frazier received her Ph.D. from Emory University in biomedical anthropology and an MPH in epidemiology. Following her studies, she received an NIH-funded FIRST fellowship in Global Health, where she gained experience in implementation science and cross-cultural measurement development. She has led teams in a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies centering on developmental and ontological aspects of emotion regulation. These general topics ranged from life-course stress and epigenetic contributions to spontaneous abortion risk to the bio-behavioral impact of violence experienced over child development on biological markers of stress and immune function.

She also has worked with women and children living with or emerging from conditions of vulnerability, such as food insecurity and domestic violence. This work was aimed at understanding the effectiveness of mindfulness-based training in contexts of high adversity exposure.

Her work with The Compassion Lab focuses on supporting the development of a research program that aims to understand how to help all humans in the cultivation of well-being through values of compassion, kindness, and an embodied understanding of common humanity.
