Research Report Published: “A Humanistic Approach to Scaling Up”
We are excited to share a newly published research report on our work with the California Department of Education published by Dr. Diane Friedlaender of Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE) at Stanford University. The report captures the systems awareness approach and practices implemented within the California Department of Education’s Expanded Learning Division between Spring 2017 and Fall 2018, and the systems wide effects we have begun to see from this work.
Dr. Friedlaender concludes that “By taking a humanistic approach to the transformation process, the EXLD (The California Department of Education’s Expanded Learning Division) made great progress scaling up the influence of the coaching beyond the core leadership team. Through inclusive processes to share their learning and continued focus on individuals as whole human beings, the majority of staff eagerly embraced the personal mastery practices and orientation. From there, the seeds were planted for deeper, cultural transformation and changed practices that strengthened relationships and built a sense of shared vision and mutual responsibility to support grantees in delivering high-quality programs for children.
We hope you’ll take the opportunity to read the SCOPE research report and accompanying brief.
To continue to document our work in California, a team is working on a follow on report to capture the ongoing work of the California Department of Education, and, in particular, to share the human stories of impact as educators and stakeholders work with and grow these practices within their daily lives and communities. We look forward to sharing that report with you later in the spring.
