Program Facilitators
With the increasing number of extreme weather events in recent years, it is becoming ever more evident that the climate crisis is the most pressing challenge of the 21st century. 2025 is on track to becoming the second or third warmest year on record. The impacts have been unmistakable - from the extremely costly forest fires in California in January to the destructive typhoons across South East Asia in November. Despite such events, we are seeing a so-called ‘greenlash’ in some states across the globe, with political leaders opposing a green transition. In contrast, global investment into renewable energy and electrification is accelerating more than ever before. In the first half of 2025, renewable energy surpassed the energy output of coal based power plants for the first time ever. This is only one of the achievements we made in fighting the climate crisis.
We face this crisis together, yet it often divides us rather than unites us. Climate change is deeply interconnected with other global challenges, including racial, gender, and geographical injustice, affecting every aspect of our lives.
For younger generations, the state of our planet profoundly influences their inner well-being, sense of compassion, and belonging. As today’s youth will become the change-makers of the future, it is critical to equip them with the skills and capacities needed to drive meaningful change.
