I am currently an Improvement Facilitator for the System Improvement Leads (SIL) project out of West San Gabriel Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).  The SIL project works collaboratively within the California Statewide System of Support to build the capacity of Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with a common goal of improving outcomes for students with disabilities.

Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to help people, but wasn’t sure in what scope.  During college as a psychology major, I had the opportunity to be an instructional assistant for a student with autism and that is when I knew what I was meant to do.  I began my journey working and supporting students with disabilities by providing in-home positive behavior interventions and supporting parents.  I missed the school setting and went back to school to complete the credential program to become a teacher.  I began teaching students with autism in various Elementary Grade Levels, to a teacher on assignment in supporting the school district’s autism program, then to a Program Specialist supporting teachers and families.  I am also planning to sit for Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification board exam and begin the admin credential program this Fall.  Throughout my career, I have provided and advocated for equitable learning opportunities for students.  I believe all students deserve to have equity and access in an inclusive learning environment.

I look forward to participating in the Compassionate Systems Master Practitioners Certification Program to connect with others across the globe.  I hope to build my capacity and learn strategies in building relationships and collaboration in the educational system and community.
