Taryn Berghuis is a Kindergarten teacher at Yokohama International School in Japan. She has been teaching for over 20 years at national and international schools in Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and Japan. Although she has taught as a homeroom teacher in all Primary School grade levels, as well as a Learning Support specialist and Teacher Librarian, her passion lies with the Early Years.
Taryn was introduced to the Compassionate Systems Framework when she was teaching at the International School of Zug and Luzern, Switzerland. She was part of the faculty that piloted the use of CSF tools in school settings. It is here that she began experimenting with the impact that different tools have on student learning in an Early Years setting. Taryn is passionate about developing positive classroom ecologies, emotional literacy and language development for all children.
Until she was 11 years old, Taryn attended school by correspondence as she lived permanently on a 38ft sailing boat that her Dad built over eight years in their backyard (which is safer than it sounds). Sailing up and down the East Coast of Australia provided her with a unique educational experience and a love of exploring new places. She is the proud mother of two daughters (10 and 11 years old) who are growing up as international, third culture kids.
