Sarah Asseraf Olesen
Head of Educational Psychological Service
Center for Children and Learning
Lejre | Denmark
Senior public sector leader with substantial experience across daycare, education and PPR, spanning strategic leadership, organisational development, people leadership and complex cross-sector collaboration. Recognised for combining a strong relational leadership approach with clarity, courage and operational drive. I lead with a clear focus on the core mission, while mobilising leaders, professionals and partners around shared direction, accountability and visible results.
I am often described as a visionary and entrepreneurial leader within the early childhood and educational field. This perspective is shaped in part by my earlier leadership experience in the private sector, both in Denmark and abroad, which has contributed to my commercial awareness, adaptability, independence and appetite for change.
I bring a high level of personal presence, warmth and engagement to my leadership. I am a communicative and reflective person with a natural ability to create connection, while also maintaining direction and accountability. I am energised by identifying openings, possibilities and untapped potential – in people, in teams and in organisations – and I tend to pursue these opportunities with both determination and optimism.
Outside work, I am deeply rooted in close relationships. I value family, friendship and the informal communities where people feel seen and connected, and I am often the one who gathers people and keeps traditions alive. I am also attentive to creating strong, lasting bonds around my children and the wider family systems they grow up in. These values carry directly into my professional life, where belonging, dignity and human responsibility are central to the way I lead.
Nature is an important source of energy, calm and reflection for me. Living close to both fjord and forest, I use nature daily as a place to regain strength and perspective. I have also spent periods of my life travelling and living abroad, which has strengthened my independence, courage, resilience and broader outlook on people and society.
As a leader, I am highly conscious of my responsibility to work continuously with my own self-awareness, mentalisation and inner clarity. I know that my expectations can also be experienced as an edge: I believe we all have a shared obligation to contribute with integrity, responsibility and decency. This combination of empathy and clear standards is an important part of who I am – both professionally and personally.
I maintain a strong interest in politics and societal development and often bring this broader lens into analyses and strategic reflections that are relevant to my leadership practice.
