She leads professional development in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging for school leaders and staff. Nora sees Compassionate Systems as an opportunity to work toward systemic change in schools, by starting with ourselves, and is excited to growing this year alongside an international cohort of learners.

Nora taught Spanish to middle school and high school students for 20 years in Humboldt County schools. In addition, she served as the Immersion Coordinator for the Spanish Immersion school and as an Instructional Coach in the McKinleyville Union School District. Nora has taught in Cal Poly Humboldt’s School of Education since 2000, where she teaches Classroom Management, LGBTQ+ Issues in K-12 Schools, and Multicultural Education to pre-service teachers.  She earned her MA in Education from Humboldt State University in 2008 in Multicultural Education, with a focus on racism and homophobia in Teacher Preparation.

Nora was awarded Humboldt County Teacher of the Year in 2020 and California Teacher of the Year in 2021.

In her free time, Nora enjoys her garden, a walk on the beach, traveling with her twin daughters and her partner, and backpacking. She runs the occasional half-marathon, loves live music and is always in pursuit of making a better peach pie.
