Marcia (pronounced Marsha) began her career teaching kindergarten through third
grade and K-5 science in urban and suburban schools across the United States. She
served as an Academic Officer in educational publishing supporting PreK-12 school
districts across the country with instructional change. She earned a master’s degree in
Computing and Education from Columbia University and a doctorate degree in
Educational Leadership, Policy, and Instructional Practice from Harvard Graduate
School of Education.
Most recently, Marcia served directly in California public schools as an administrator at
the site, district, and county office levels in teaching and learning. Marcia currently
serves as Associate Superintendent, Educational Services at Santa Cruz County Office
of Education supporting school districts with all aspects of education from early
childhood through adult opportunities. Marcia also collaborates with the Educational
Services team to provide Differentiated Assistance and professional learning
for schools in service of achieving equitable outcomes for all students.
Marcia is the daughter of two military officers and lived with them and her two sisters all
over the United States graduating high school in Germany. Her mother was a trailblazer
for women’s rights in America and retired as the first female Joint Staff Chaplain for the
Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. Marcia’s experiences moving every three years,
living in diverse places, and the influence of her mother and father shaped her world
view and who she is today.
