My name is Laelia Maynor. I am a member of the Center for Systems Awareness Youth Leadership Team and International Youth Council. I recently graduated high school in McKinleyville, California and I plan on taking a gap year to travel, then go to university to major in international relations. My journey with systems thinking began in 2022 when I attended an introductory workshop as a student representative of McKinleyville High School.
Community and compassion are the core values that have been instilled upon me throughout my life. As a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and Girl Scout I have served my community in many capacities. I acted as treasurer for Young Religious Unitarian Universalists of the Pacific for two years. Through Girl Scouts I had the honor of representing GSUSA at the United Nations 2023 Commission on the Status of Women. I also held positions as a regional and national delegate. The tools and frameworks provided by the Center resonate deeply with my values of equality, sustainability, and profound interconnectedness.
In school I enjoyed theater, participating in our plays and drama classes. I acted as my school Student Board Representative, attending school board meetings and advocating for students’ legal rights. Issues I brought to the board’s attention ranged from a lack of art on campus to access to bathrooms.
I am incredibly excited to participate in the Master Practitioner Certification in order to strengthen my skills as a Youth Leadership Team member. This is an opportunity that I am very excited to take advantage of as a part of my higher education. I plan on studying International Relations and Gender Feminist studies in university.
