Dr. Julia Kinnear is Vice-Principal of Learning and Academic Innovation at Upper Canada College, an independent, all boys K-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum World School in Toronto. Julia oversees all aspects of the K-12 learning program, including academics, student support, outdoor education, and the approach to integrating sustainability, wellbeing, pluralism and leadership development, along with innovation projects that will enhance the College’s program into its third century. She championed UCC’s implementation of the IB Middle Years Programme, collaborated with a cross-functional team to introduce a continuum of learning in design thinking and digital innovation and is presently leading the development and implementation of a pilot Systems Transformation Pathway for the Diploma Programme in partnership with the IB. As a member of the senior leadership team, Julia is also fortunate to act as UCC’s pluralism strategy lead, working across the institution with all of the College’s constituent groups to realize a bold and progressive plan that aims to enhance pluralism as an essential cornerstone of a UCC education, generating the feelings of safety and belonging that support individual and community wellbeing and flourishing and the creation of a more inclusive, just society.
