Cynthia Salas Salgado stands as a beacon of equity and inclusion, her journey marked by a profound dedication to uplifting and empowering others. As the daughter of migrant field workers and a first- generation trailblazer in her family, Cynthia’s story is one of resilience and unwavering commitment. With a solid foundation in biochemistry from Iowa State University, Cynthia’s passion for bridging the achievement gap from early childhood to young adulthood shines through her tireless efforts to mentor and prepare the next generation of leaders in her community.
Cynthia’s personal and professional growth is a testament to the unwavering support she received from her parents, family, community leaders, teachers, and influential mentors. These experiences have instilled in her a deep commitment to paying it forward, empowering others to realize their full potential. Cynthia’s illustrious career spans social justice, healthcare, and education sectors, where she has established herself as a formidable leader and advocate for marginalized communities. In her previous role as Equity Services Manager at Ventura County Behavioral Health, she led the Office of Health Equity and Cultural Diversity, providing crucial guidance on implementing federal statutes and welfare institution codes. Her dedication to advancing racial equity through data-driven strategies and promoting cultural responsiveness has consistently driven positive change.
Her leadership transcends professional boundaries. As the founding DEI Chair for the County of Ventura for three years, Cynthia spearheaded initiatives to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion across the county. Her tenure as President of the Latino Town Hall amplified the voices of the Latino community, and she currently serves as President of One Step A La Vez, a nonprofit organization devoted to empowering student leaders. In her current role within Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE), she leads the Community School initiative where she supports school districts looking to reimagine how to elevate serving students. She first entered VCOE serving students and families through Outreach and Engagement efforts for the Migrant Education Program, Cynthia continues to champion educational equity, making significant contributions that resonate throughout the community.
As of July 1 st, she has been invited by the Pelayo Foundation to be part of their board as a way to empower and uplift the arts as a way of expression and mindfulness for young people, she is dedicated to embarking on a journey of inspiring students with a love for the arts, intertwining her passion for creativity with her advocacy for social justice. Cynthia Salas Salgado’s multifaceted experiences, unwavering dedication, and fervent passion for equity and inclusion render her an invaluable asset to
any organization committed to fostering a more just and equitable society. Looking ahead, Cynthia is excited to continue her higher education career in education leadership to lead efforts within K-22 system. Beyond her community leadership and professional endeavors, Cynthia indulges in reading, engaging in the arts, practicing combat sports, spending time with friends, family and exploring nature with her beloved dogs, Albert Einstein and Michelle Besso.
