Cori Ove is Project Specialist 1, Region 3 Expanded Learning Programs in the Sacramento County Office of Education. She has worked with youth for over 20 years in many different roles, from babysitter to program director. While working with severely emotionally disturbed teens, Cori became interested in how trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can shape a person for life. She put those insights about trauma and relationships into practice while teaching math to 4th – 8th graders, making sure her classroom was a space where relationships came first and every child was seen, heard and loved. As much as Cori loved teaching students, she struggled with the restraints of the classroom and how hard it was to follow best practices. It was while working as a site coordinator that she found her passion, and never looked back. Cori believes that Expanded Learning is the key to a community’s success and can help alleviate many of the issues society faces today, including poverty, addiction, and inequality. Cori has been active in Expanded Learning for the last 6 years, volunteering as part of the CA Afterschool Network Site Coordinator Network Leadership Team, as a member of CA3 for a year, is a graduate of the ASAPConnect’s School of Leadership and Facilitation TA Fellows (2023) and the Coaching Fellows (2024), won the CA Expanded Learning Emerging Leadership Award in 2022 and is a Gallup Strengths Coach. She has a passion for older youth (because they become our staff members!) and believes that older youth deserve programs that provide them with developmentally appropriate practices. She believes in a strengths-based approach and that relationships are the key to everything. Cori earned her Master of Science in Child Development from the University of La Verne in California.
