Claire McKay

Director of Instruction
School District #91, Nechako Lakes
Canada: British Columbia Hub | NORTH AMERICA

I am an uninvited settler on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Nak’azdli Wh’uten who have stewarded these lands for thousands of years. I am grateful to live and have raised my children on these lands and for the nourishment they give me every day.

I am an educator who has the privilege of working with and supporting learners with diverse needs and identities. I am grateful for the knowledge that learners, families and staff have shared with me in order for me to be the best I can be in the work. I started my career as an educator more than 30 years ago in the UK as teacher of the early years teaching four-year-olds. I am passionate about equity, inclusion and creating spaces for all. I am a Director of Instruction in a small rural district in Northern British Columbia and I am grateful to work on the lands of fourteen indigenous nations representing the Nedut’en, Wet’sutw’en and Dakelh.

I am drawn to the work of Compassionate Systems and the tools that assist me to show up in spaces in a way that is authentic and meaningful and to create spaces that will invite others. I am committed to bringing the work to learners and I hope through my learning I can teach, inspire, and support teachers and learners.
