Born and raised in Aptos, California, Brooke Hofkins is a lifelong educator whose commitment to public education began in the very schools she now serves. A graduate of Pajaro Valley Unified School District, Brooke discovered her passion for learning in elementary school and has dedicated her career to supporting students, educators, and school communities throughout Santa Cruz County. After earning her degree from San José State University, Brooke began her career as a teacher at MacQuiddy Elementary School while simultaneously earning her teaching credential through University of California, Santa Cruz. Over the past two decades, she has served in a variety of educational leadership roles, including instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator.

As Principal of HA Hyde Elementary, Brooke led the school community through the
unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening her belief in the power of
collaboration, resilience, and student-centered leadership. She later served as Coordinator of
Assessment and Accountability for Pajaro Valley Unified School District, where she partnered
with school leaders to use data as a tool for continuous improvement and informed
decision-making.

Today, Brooke serves as Senior Director of District Support and Leadership at the Santa Cruz
County Office of Education, where she collaborates with districts and charter schools to
advance strategic initiatives, strengthen leadership capacity, and support continuous
improvement efforts. Her work is grounded in a commitment to equity, partnership, coaching,
and systems-level thinking that empowers educators to create meaningful outcomes for
students.

Brooke lives in Aptos with her husband, David, and their two children, Andrew and Natalie.
Outside of work, she enjoys running and walking along the coast and through local forests,
working in her garden, reading historical fiction and suspense novels, spending time with
lifelong friends, and cheering on the Golden State Warriors—a tradition she rarely misses.
