Our Premise
With the increasing number of extreme weather events in recent years, it is becoming ever more evident that the climate crisis is the most pressing challenge of the 21st century. At the time of writing, the most destructive wildfire in California’s history continues to rage, causing widespread devastation, loss, and suffering. And this is just one of many record-breaking weather events we have witnessed over the past two years.
We face this crisis together, yet it often divides us rather than unites us. Climate change is deeply interconnected with other global challenges, including racial, gender, and geographical injustice, affecting every aspect of our lives. For younger generations, the state of our planet profoundly influences their inner well-being, sense of compassion, and belonging. As today’s youth will become the change-makers of the future, it is critical to equip them with the skills and capacities needed to drive meaningful change.
At the Center for Systems Awareness, we believe two key capacities are essential:
-
A Systemic Understanding of the Crisis – Participants must grasp the economic and ecological dynamics at play in climate change, including tipping points, delay effects, and stock-and-flow systems.
-
Emotional Resilience and Collective Support – Confronting the severity of the crisis can be overwhelming. It is crucial to create a space where emotions can be acknowledged, shared, and transformed into a source of motivation rather than despair and paralysis.
The Compassionate Climate program provides such a space for an international, multigenerational group of like-minded individuals seeking to deepen their knowledge and develop the skills to address climate change. Through previous cycles of this program, we have begun building a global community of educators and youth—one that you will become part of, helping to bring these essential capacities into your school and local community.
