SUMMARY:Compassionate Systems School - through the eyes of Youth Council
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the new offering! This is a 2 hour session that is exclusive to our compassionate systems alumni at no cost.  \nThe session is led by the Youth Council members and will have a regular format with an opening ritual\, and some input where they will share their findings from their projects\, what they have learned personally\, etc. This will be done in a way where we seek to make it relevant for all participants and invite you to think about using their insights in your personal life and practice. \nAt the Center for Systems Awareness\, we hold multiple community spaces for practitioners in the educational system – educators\, teachers\, administrative staff\, and other faculty – but one essential group in the educational system has not had a community to flourish and grow. Students\, the key persons\, and the educational system’s primary beneficiaries need to be heard and brought closer to the decision-making to help shape the educational setting that would benefit them the most. \nThe intention is to grow the student’s capacities by involving them in the heart of projects where they can make a sustainable systemic shift. \nThis project intends to create a space where students from diverse backgrounds and countries come together and shape the community they want to be a part of. Furthermore\, we hope this group of young people can shape a future movement of Compassionate Systems student ambassadors and become compassionate practitioners who respond to the needs of complex social challenges.

DESCRIPTION:Young people throughout different cultures and circumstances are confronted with the complex contradictions of the interconnected\, interdependent systems in our world (e.g. climate change\, human migration\, terrorism\, substance use\, Covid-19\, etc.). An essential question for the future of education is how do we help students to reflect on\, deeply understand and respond mindfully and compassionately rather than just feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of these systems. With the growing interest in education in social and emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness today\, we feel it is especially timely to show how these can combine with skills in understanding systems and complexity to establish a cognitive and affective foundation for global citizenship. \nThis hands-on workshop is an introduction to the tools and approaches that have been developed for implementing what we call a “Compassionate Systems” framework. A framework that is being used at both the level of classroom innovations and collective leadership in shaping a more generative school culture. We conceptualize compassion as an essentially systemic property of mind: to cultivate compassion is to be able to appreciate the systemic forces that influence people’s actions. DESCRIPTION:How to Hold Space: Compassionate Systems Facilitation for Cultivating Generative Social Fields \nBlended program with multiple virtual convenings plus one week-long\, in-person retreat \nTimeframe: October 2022 – February 2023 \nEligibility: Compassionate Systems Master Practitioners \nThis 4-month program\, consisting of a blended learning design\, is organized with the following elements: \n\n1 introductory\, “launch” call\, 90 min.\n1 week-long\, in-person retreat at The Garrison Institute in Garrison\, NY. At this retreat\, our faculty will facilitate practices to support master practitioners in deepening their own contemplative practice while also supporting them to build capacity to hold space for others plus time to practice new skills in a safe and supportive environment.\n4 program community calls\, 75 min/call to deepen capacity and practice with peers.\nIndividualized support calls with faculty\, up to 2 calls/practitioner\, for customized practice support and feedback.\n4 global contemplative calls\, 75 min/call. At these calls\, practitioners will be given the opportunity to lead a short meditation for our global community.
